Nurturing Childhood, Securing Futures...

India, with a staggering child population of approximately 430 million, holds the distinction of having the largest number of children in the world. Out of this vast number, an estimated 170 million children are in urgent need of care and protection. These vulnerable children may be abandoned by their families due to poverty, social stigma, or other socioeconomic pressures. Many are forced to flee abusive or unsafe home environments, while others are victims of child trafficking, orphaned by disease or disaster, or compelled to survive by working in informal sectors, often under exploitative conditions.
Despite legal safeguards and the recognition of children’s rights under both national and international frameworks, a significant number of these children are deprived of a nurturing, secure, and family-like environment essential for their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Growing up without stable family care can lead to severe developmental setbacks, emotional trauma, lack of access to education and healthcare, and long-term social exclusion. Ensuring the well-being of these children requires coordinated efforts from government agencies, civil society, and communities to provide holistic child protection services, promote foster care and adoption, and create supportive environments where every child can thrive and realize their full potential.
