Aide et Action (now Action Education) was founded in 1981 as a secular, apolitical, not-for-profit organization headquartered in Paris, France. Over the years AEA established its presence in 19 countries across South Asia, South East Asia, Africa and Europe.
In 1981, AEA began operations in India and got registered in 1988 as a not-for-profit organization under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 (corresponding to Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013). Today the India operation is part of the larger South Asia operations comprising Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan. The operations in India are managed through 6 offices with Chennai as the India headquarters.
