Strengthening Alternative Care Reforms in Assam (SACRA)

Project Aide et Action, in collaboration with the State Child Protection Society (SCPS), Assam and with support from UNICEF, has been implementing the project “Strengthening Alternative Care Reforms in Assam” since 2020.

Initially, the project focused primarily on after care efforts. However, since 2023, its scope has expanded to encompass the broader spectrum of alternative care, emphasizing deinstitutionalization of children, family strengthening, and aftercare support.

The project extended its geographical coverage in the following 22 districts of Assam – Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Tinsukia,  Kamrup,  Kamrup (M), Nalbari,  Barpeta, Kokrajhar,  Chirang, Baksa,  Udalguri,  Bongaigaon, Hailakandi,  Cachar, Karimganj, Nagaon,  Morigaon,  Hojai,  Darrang, Sonitpur.

The Assam Care Leavers Association (ACLA), a collective of young people from various childcare institutions (CCIs) of Assam, is also promoted under the alternative care reforms project.

Key Interventions

Strengthening Family-Based Care Arrangements: Ensuring children grow in a nurturing, family-like environment.

Collectivization of Care Leavers: Forming the Assam Care Leavers Association to provide support for youth transitioning out of care.

Enhancement of Technical Capacities of DCPU: Strengthening the capabilities of District Child Protection Units.

Facilitation in Access to Schemes and Documents: Helping children and care leavers access relevant schemes and documentation.
