Holistic Early Education and Nutrition Initiative (HEENI)

 

 

The Holistic Early Education and Nutrition Initiative (HEENI), supported by Childaid Network, works to create safe, inclusive and resilient learning environments for children aged 3–10 years in communities across Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Majuli.

The initiative supports children both at school and at home, with a focus on early learning, foundational literacy and numeracy, nutrition, hygiene, and community participation. It also aims to ensure that children’s learning and well-being are supported even during challenging periods such as floods.

Key Objectives:

  • Children aged 3–6 attending Anganwadi Centres demonstrate age appropriate cognitive development, early learning competencies, and school readiness.
  • Primary-grade children in 70 government schools show age appropriate skills in foundational literacy and numeracy. 
  • Children aged 3–10 and their caregivers in target communities adopt improved dietary and hygiene practices.
  • Community groups and relevant local institutions in the target communities regularly monitor and support early learning and nutrition practices in schools and Anganwadi Centres.
